Sarawak Health Metropolis is a mega Healthcare project. The objective of the project to develop an area where all the Healthcare and Wellness industries could be futher developed. People have jobs and could make a living in kuching. There is not need to find another country to study and to stay.
The proposed project could create some 3000 jobs and would contribute RM 100 million per year to the economic of the country. Dr Sim Kui Hian, announced his plans for the Sarawak Health Metropolis which was supported by the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.
It proposed site is to be developed in the Kuching-Kota Samarahan Corridor, the Health Metropolis will provide world class one-stop public healthcare and medical research and education in the state.

“The time has come for Sarawak to lessen its dependence on commodity-based natural resources, like timber, coal, rubber, pepper, etc
Our true wealth lies in our people and the talent they possess. We must leverage our ‘brain trust’ to move into a knowledge-based economy that innovates and adds value. This approach will help to retain our best and brightest local talent and at the some time attract others to come and build their careers and lives in Sarawak.” said Dr Sim.
He said when fully completed, the Sarawak Health Metropolis will provide up to 3000 new jobs and generate over RM100 million per year to the economic.
Apart from medical facilities for the public, the metropolis will have
Universities for medical education in traditional medicine and modern medicine practices, Healthcare and biotechnology research facilities, Manufacturing facilities for prescription drugs and medical equipment.
In order to support the project, there are also plans for residential and commercial development as it is expected to be a thriving centre full of economic opportunities. A core part of the Sarawak Health Metropolis will be zoned as a green area to enhance its environmental sustainability.
Lending his support to the project, Professor Reinhard Renneberg from Hong Kong University Science and Technology said that by equipping the metropolis with international top-specialists and advisors and biomedical high-technology will increase not only the real life quality of all Malaysians but also prolong life expectancy in good health.
“It will put Malaysia into the top of Nations with excellent health care. I would be happy to help Malaysia to reach this ambitious goal” said Prof Reinhard.
The government is considering this a project as part of the National Key Economic Areas and Dr Sim hopes it will attract international talent and multinational companies associated with the healthcare industry to partner and invest in Sarawak.
The Sarawak Health Metropolis will be the latest addition to Kuching-Kota Samarahan Corridor- the area already consists of two major Universities (UNIMAS and UiTM), the Samajaya Free Industrial Zone, Sarawak General Hospital Heart Centre and new housing estates. When completed, it give 3000 jobs and RM100 million per year to the economic of the state.It will put sarawak into the top of Nations with excellent Health Care country in the world.
